Festive Stalemate at the Grove

The Royals will be kicking themselves that they could not see out the win at Halesowen after leading twice. Manager Neil Tooth made 2 changes to the side that won against Rushall with Matt Jackson and Iyseden Christie being replaced in the starting 11 with Andre Gonzales and Steven Palmer.

The 1st half was all the Royals and they took the lead as early as the 4th minute when a sweeping move ended with Ryan Edmunds firing past Rowley in the Yeltz goal. With the home side stunned another excellent passing move minutes later ended with Goddard firing just wide with the keeper beaten. Sutton adapted to the conditions well and on an awful playing surface they still managed to move the ball well and cause the home side problems. The home sides first effort on goal came from Bragoli but his shot was easily saved by Wren. As the half wore on Both Lycett and Kettle had chances to score but the best chance fell to Forde who scuffed his shot from 10 yards out and Rowley easily saved. After dominating the half the Royals should have gone into half time with the game won.

The 2nd half saw two changes for the home side and a change in shape but none of that had any influence on their equalising goal as a mistake by Kettle when under no pressure allowed Anderson to run clear and fire past Wren with the 2nd half barely 30 seconds old. This totally changed the balance of play and with the home side now growing in confidence its was Suttons turn to soak up the pressure as the home side pushed forward and should have gone in front when Bragoli missed from 3 yards out. With a change in shape for the home side Royals manager Neil Tooth had to change things and he brought on former Yeltz favourite Iyseden Christie and somewhat against the run of play it was the veteran striker who restored the Royals lead when he headed home after great build up play from Forde and Goddard. This settled the Royals down and the game became fairly scrappy for both sides. Rogers had two attempts from distance to wrap up the points for the Royals but with time nearly up some good wing play from the home side resulted in Anderson heading home for his 2nd of the game in the 89th minute. This proved to be the last action of the game and left the Royals again thinking of what might have been after their 1st half dominance. But credit to Halesowen as they got back into the game and in the end a draw was a fair result.
