This Saturday will see The Royals take on their second away fixture in a run of four. This time it’s against a new side, Racing Club Warwick. The first one was against Anstey Nomads on Tuesday night, and although we lost 1-0 to an unlucky penalty, the performance was very good.
Racing Club Warwick are based in Warwick and are nicknamed the Racers. They play in Gold and Black, were formed in 1919 and play at the Townsend Meadow. They were promoted to our League via the playoffs last season from the United Counties Premier Division.
In more recent times, they won the Midland Alliance League Cup in 2004/05 and were Floodlit Youth League Southern champions in 2013/14.
Sutton are currently in 6th place, just outside the play-offs on 22 points. Racing is in 13th position on 17 points, having played three games more than Sutton.
Racing had a good win on Tuesday night against Grantham, with Sutton old boy Max McNulty grabbing a brace. They have also beaten Darlaston away in recent weeks, something which Sutton struggled to do.
Oddly enough, Racing have not won a league game at home so far, despite getting 3 on their travels.
Sutton last played Racing Club Warwick in the 2001/02 League season, winning 2-1 at home and 4-1 away.
Sutton will be keen to capitalise on Racing’s poor home performances, with points very much needed to keep up with the leading pack in this league.
