It was a disappointing result on Tuesday, with only a goalless draw to show for a game which the Royals dominated, but failed to breech the resolute Bedworth defence.
It’s a sign of how far Sutton have come, that we can talk about a draw being a disappointment, but nine league games unbeaten is nothing to be down about.
This Saturday we take on new boys Darlaston Town who are flying high at present and look to be fighting along with Sutton for those playoff places.
Darlaston Town play at the Paycare Ground in the borough of Walsall. Originally, they were formed in 1874 but folded in the 2013 season, and following two public meetings, a new committee Darlaston Town (1874) was born.
Darlaston were promoted from the Midland League Premier Division after winning the playoffs.
They play in blue and white stripes and are nicknamed The Citizens.
Sutton are in the playoff places at present in 5th spot on 19 points after 10 games, Darlaston are in 7th on 18 points from 11 games.
Darlaston have had wins against Lye, Hinckley, Grantham, Loughborough Students, Worcester and Shepshed.
They have scored 20 goals along the way, but more importantly they have a good defence, only conceding 9 goals in those 11 games.
The last time Sutton played Darlaston Town was back in July 2021 in a friendly at the Paycare Stadium. We won 4-0 on the day, and a similar result would be fantastic this Saturday. Competitively we last played them in 95/96 in the 1st round of the Walsall Senior Cup, where we won 2-0 on the day.
Darlaston Town are a very different side now, and it will be a very competitive game with both sides in strong form. Sutton will need to show the grit and determination they showed away to Worcester if they are to get anything from this game.
