Another season starts at the newly named Domino’s Arena against fellow ground sharers Romulus. In this FA Cup fixture, both teams have been busy recruiting and team building during a busy summer period.

Romulus were formed in 1979 and play in the Midland League Premier division. They are nicknamed the Roms, and they play in red and white stripes, and have Sutton’s previous manager Neil Tooth. So, The Royals know it will be a difficult game as his sides are well drilled in mastering opposition from leagues above.

Sutton have already played Romulus this year, last month in fact in a pre-season friendly, and won 3-2. A lot has changed within both teams, so this last result will not be a good indicator when Saturday’s game arrives.

Sutton have had some mixed results pre-season beating Romulus, Wolverhampton Casuals, Aylestone Park, Belper and Stafford Rangers, but lost to Rushall Olympic and Chasetown.

Romulus have had a difficult pre-season losing to SCTFC, Coventry UTD, Coleshill and Walsall Wood.

Sutton welcome new players this season with Wren returning for another stint with the Royals. Burke and Parry join the team up front, and will hopefully get the goals Sutton so badly needed last season.

McGinnell joins us from Chasetown to give us strength in defence, along with wide man Morris, midfield maestro Washbourne, and Lynch who plays on the left.

Both Taylor and Binns have now stepped up from the u18s to join the first team squad, so well done to you both.

Lots to look forward to in the coming season, with a great opener against Romulus in this classic cup competition.
