The Royals face another break from league action as we take the trip to The Valley Stadium to take on West Bromwich Albion in the Birmingham FA Women’s Challenge Cup
Sutton come off the back of back-to-back defeats away at Loughborough which saw us exit the FA Cup and fall to defeat in the league
The Baggies are also coming into this fixture following a tough run of games in the Northern Premier Division, the latest being a two-nil defeat at the hands of Nottingham Forest
Lauren Whittington takes charge as she hopes her side can take on the challenge
“The girls have trained well this week and have worked hard over the past 2 weeks to overcome challenges that the squad has faced
“We are looking forward to the challenge on Sunday against a tough opponent in West Brom, one where I know the girls will put in a strong performance”
Sutton’s number 12 Niamh Deasy will be looking forward for her return to the Black Country having left Albion for Sporting Khalsa in July of this year before returning to Sutton
Deasy would leave her first stint as a Royal to join Stourbridge in the summer of 2022 with former Royal Sophie Levick, before donning the Shirts of West Brom and Khalsa
The forward has scored twice since returning to the Royals, putting in some impressive displays notably in her first game back against Alvechurch in the FA Cup
Last time out in the County Cup Sutton faced Albion’s Black Country rivals Wolves, coming away with a 1-0 defeat
The Royals most successful run in the competition would come the 19/20
The run would start with a trip to Alvechurch which saw Sutton come away 4-0 victors, shortly after we would again have to travel as we beat Solihull Moors 2-1
Town now found themselves in the Quarter-finals as we took on Stockingford who held us to a 0-0 draw, however the Royals would advance as we won four-one on penalties
This led Sutton to a semi-final draw against this Sunday’s opponents who would progress to the Final
The Royals will be hoping for another run in the County Cup, make sure to join the Royals this weekend!
