Royals manager Neil Tooth was left fuming at the penalty decision that ultimately cost his side a replay and a place in Mondays Fa Cup Draw.
Goals From Nathan Thompson and Lee Parsons looked to have earned the Royals a deserved replay but in injury time Stourbridge were awarded a penalty when Scott Lycett was adjudged to have handled in the box.
We caught up with Toothy and he had the following to say, "My lads were superb on Saturday and we all feel robbed. Its a massive call from the referee to give that in the last minute but not 1 person has come forward and said it hit Scotty on the hand. Fair play to the Stourbridge players directors and supporters as they have spoke out for us and said it was never a penalty. Then to make matters worse he sends Scott off. For me even if the ball has hit his arm there was no way in this world he could get out of the way and the penalty was punishment enough but he wont admit he has made a mistake and rescind the red card. Referees don't care what impact their decisions have and the ref Saturday would never admit he got it wrong as he is another being fast tracked through the leagues. That decision has cost our club money and we now lose Scott for a game and as a result he will lose money too.
Its a shame as the main talking point from the game is a shocking decision and that takes the limelight away from a really good game of football. Credit to Stourbridge they did what they needed to do and they are a very good side but im so proud of my team as they again showed what we are capable off. Were not getting the rub of the green at the minute and it seems every time we make a mistake we get punished. We showed on Saturday what we are capable of and we caused Stourbridge no end of problems and if we can maintain that in our league games im confident we can have a good season. I said to the lads after that we need to go again starting Tuesday at Chasetown and having that game so soon gives us no time to dwell on what might have been.
